And I Lost My Heart to A Galway Girl

And I ask you friends, what's a fella to do?

Because her hair was black and her eyes were blue
So I took her hand, and I gave her a twirl
And I lost my heart to a Galway Girl.

It is kind of a joke of our apartment that our apartment song is Galway Girl by Steve Earle. Most people will recognize it because it is in the movie PS I Love You. And this last Sunday, I finally planned a trip to the Western side of Ireland to visit Galway. Kaylin, my roommate, had her grandfather here for the weekend and she was planning on going to Galway with him. I thought it would be the perfect time to go since I wasn't doing anything, so I tagged along. Our other roommate, Ashley, came along as well. We decided to do a bus tour through Paddy Wagon because we had done bus tours with them before and they are normally very good.

Sunday morning, we get a bright and early start of 7am. The buses don't run that early, so we had to take a taxi in to get us to the meeting point in the city. The awkward part was they had overbooked the tour, so Ashley and I got separated from Kaylin and her grandfather. They joined a 4 day tour, but they were all stopping at the same points we were at the same time, so it was ok in the end.

It was about an hour drive until we hit our first stop, which was Cong. There was some movie that I had never heard of filmed here. There also a cute abbey with a wilderness walk that we didn't have enough time to walk. Then we next moved on to driving through Connemara which was so picturesque. Pictures couldn't capture its beauty. The best part was we really got to experience western Ireland weather. This consists go constant rain showers. They would roll in and pour for about 10 minutes and then move on and clear up. But, here are some pictures of our drive through Connemara.

We finally made it to Galway Bay and boy was it windy. From here, you are able to see in the distance the Cliffs of Mohr, which was completely in clouds.

Then we reached our final destination, Galway. It had started to rain a bit, but it didn't stop us from walking around. It was a very similar city to Ireland, but it was a bit smaller. One thing to see was the Spanish arches, which were kind of just like any other arch. Nothing too special. We managed to walk through a market place. It was about to close, but we were still able to get some shopping done. And seeing how we really hadn't eaten all day, we were starving. We went to a pub to get some good old Irish comfort pub grub. I had some delicious Irish lamb stew. Then it was back on the bus to make our way back to Dublin. I managed to be awake for about 30 minutes of the 2 hour ride!
